Sports animals
include greyhounds, race horses and racing pigeons. Elite racing
animals are a source of national pride and are the main focus of the greyhound
and horse-racing industries which contribute economically to our country. Betting
on races and attending race meetings give enjoyment to many people. Sports animals
require very special care because, like any top-performing athlete, their bodies
are often pushed to the limit.
Hunting and gun dogs are used to locate target animals by
'pointing' and to retrieve animals, especially birds, after they have been
shot.
