Informed media coverage is getting greater recognition of the Research Centre for Reproductive Health's achievements, many of which have been put into clinical practice to assist the community. The forefront of the Centre’s research interests are fetal development and its influence on adult health, environmental influences on fertility and the development of the embryo and improving the processes of ART and IVF procedures.
The RCRH is a collective group of world experts in reproductive health research, innovation and discovery focusing and collaborating on the following reproductive research areas:
- Nutrition and Reproduction
- Oocyte and Embryo Early Development
- Reproductive Immunology and Placenta
- Ovarian and Follicular Function
- Health and Social Outcomes in Reproduction
- Consequences of Pregnancy for Health and Disease
- Human and Animal Reproductive Biotechnology
Unique Research Approach
RCRH uniquely integrates research in basic, clinical and social sciences from oogenesis to post birth, focusing on clinical outcomes and public health issues. While RCRH concentrates on the basic biological aspects of reproduction with an aim to produce outstanding clinical results and development of new technologies in a collaborative approach, the Centre's research interests also encompass the health and social outcomes in reproduction.
Research Collaboration
RCRH uses experimental strategies in In Vivo and In Vitro systems, involving molecular biology and genetic models, genomics and proteomics, cell biology and biochemistry, structural and functional tissue analysis, animal and human physiology, randomised clinical trials, statistical analysis and mathematical modelling.
Frontier research advances have seen RCRH acknowledged as a world leader. Some of the recent advances through RCRH include:
- IGF-II patent technology to advance the single IVF embryo transplant
- PV903 immunology drug discovery to assist with recurrent miscarriage
- Egg Timer Test to assist women in measuring true reproductive age of their eggs
Background in Brief
The Research Centre for Reproductive Health was established in April 2004, arising from the Reproductive Medicine Unit of the University of Adelaide. In close collaboration with the Discipline of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, RCRH is a world leader in the investigation and improvement of reproduction and reproductive health research spanning from oogenesis to post conception.
Directed by Professor Robert Norman and a Senior Advisory Board, RCRH integrates key research leaders, emerging postdoctoral researchers and talented postgraduate students to assure its continual growth in depth and profile and to strengthen its linkages with government, health service providers and industry to maximise impact on reproductive health service and delivery.
