Relocating to Adelaide?

Adelaide is one of the few cosmopolitan cities where you can combine a rewarding career, enjoy quality time with family and friends and have an affordable lifestyle. Entry to Australia and Visas

Travellers to Australia need a valid passport or similar certificate of identification. Everyone, except travellers with Australian or New Zealand passports, requires a visa. Visit the Department of Immigration & Citizenship for information on tourist visas, working holidays, business visits, and other useful contacts.

• Visiting Academic Visa (Subclass 419), for invited academics to visit Australia to observe or participate in research projects, without remuneration other than a contribution towards living expenses and travel costs.
  
• Occupational Trainee Visa (Subclass 442) or
• Postgraduate Research and Higher Education or
• Non-award

Visiting Students

Overseas students currently enrolled in a higher education program wishing to visit our research centre can do so by invitation. The immigration department has stringent protocols for assessing visiting students and below are some important steps to note.

1. Students should verify their enrollement in a higher education program by supplying a current CV, academic transcript, and certified letter from the institution that they are currently enrolled at.
2. Submit a 'Nomination for occupational training - 913' application to the South Australian Immigration Department - form can be downloaded by visiting the Department of Immigration & Citizenship website.
3. Obtain the appropriate visa as per above.

4) For students: the Royal Adelaide Hospital Residential Wing offers cheap housing. You could try this site Backpacker and Youth/Student Hostels in Adelaide where a listing of local backpackers is provided.
Also Lincoln College (15 mins walk) has University student housing at AUD$50 per night bed/breakfast. NB Accommodations queries/bookings should be done via the Lincoln email address, not directly via their website. 6) Serviced Apartments: a list of serviced apartments for visitors/new staff to the University can be viewed here . Serviced apartments offer a cleaning service and furniture and are a more expensive option. This may be preferred by visitors on short stays or staff wishing to have a place to stay while looking for more suitable accommodation elsewhere.

  Some suggested suburbs within a 10km radius of the Adelaide City (and University) are: Brompton, North Adelaide, Rose Park, Payneham, Kensington, Ashford, Norwood, Joshlin, Glenside and Mile End. Areas by the beachside are Glenelg, Henley Beach and Grange.

Transport

Hire a bicycle to check out local highlights

Take advantage of the Adelaide 'Bikes Scheme' by hiring out a bike on a day-to-day basis at very low fees (some are free) to get around town quickly and easily. You will need proof of ID to secure a bond for the bike hire, so take a driver's licence/passport and call before hand to book in advance. Bikes come with a helmet and lock.
