Residents' Stories
Yen - Sydney
I'm studying a Bachelor of Medicine/Surgery and moved into The Village after being awarded a
Village scholarship in July. I was looking for a University student community where I could look after
myself, eg shopping, cooking and cleaning. I'm living in a new, modern townhouse and have been able to
meet and chill out with people from all over the world and all walks of life. I have made new friends
from USA, France, Germany, Netherlands, UK, China, Hong Kong Singapore, Malaysia, Pakistan and around
Australia. I really love the community environment and have already recommended it to others at Uni.

Angela - Bahrain
In pursuit of optimal career opportunities, I flew half way across the world from Bahrain to
Australia in 2003 to study Medicine. I moved into The Village when it opened in July, having previously
lived at a residential college and then as a live-in tutor at a private boarding school. The security
and privacy at The Village in my opinion remains unmatched. I have a great room with my own bathroom
on the top floor of a five-bedroom townhouse. [read more]
Jason - Adelaide's southern suburbs
I was born in Adelaide but my background is Chinese. I am studying a Bachelor of Mechatronic
Engineering and I moved into The Village when it opened in July after being awarded a Village scholarship.
I was living at home before moving into The Village and getting to and from Uni took a long time so it's
great to be living so close to everything now. A lot of my friends from Uni also live close to town so
I am able to go out with them more often. [read more]
Rachel - New York, USA
I'm from White Plains, New York and I'm here for one semester as part of a study abroad program,
studying Mathematics and Secondary Education. I moved into The Village in July after reading about it
on the Internet. The location of The Village is great -within walking distance to Uni and everywhere
else I want to go in Adelaide. It is also really close to the Central Market, supermarket and Gouger
St restaurants. [read more]

I am in my first year of Medicine and moved into The Village when it opened in July. I think
I'm going to be here for a while! The Village is so different to other accommodation I've lived in -it's
nice and new, stylish and funky and the people are so nice! [read more]

I am from Seremban, Malaysia and I am in my first year of Medicine. Before moving into The Village,
I had been living in a College where I had a single room, shared a bathroom and meals were included.
Living at The Village is like living at home - you have a bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen, balcony
and most importantly -a family (your housemates!). [read more]

I am from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and I am in my second year of a Bachelor of Engineering. I
moved into The Village when it first opened. I had previously been living in a share house with friends
and then in a private hostel for a year. The Village is different from the other accommodation I have
experienced in that it provides round the clock security and friendly reception staff who are always
ready to help. [read more]

I came to the University of Adelaide to study a Graduate Diploma in Creative Writing followed
by a Masters. When I arrived in Adelaide I only had 1 week's temporary accommodation that had been arranged
by the International Student Centre. I visited the Accommodation Office who helped me find living space.
The CITI townhouses and the Colleges were already full, and The Village was still under construction,
so I moved into a share house but shortly after moved into The Village once it opened. [read more]

I came to the University in 2004 to study Electrical and Electronic Engineering after completing
my diploma at Inti College in Malaysia. At first my friends and I were worried about accommodation since
we were unfamiliar with the surroundings, but we spoke to the friendly Accommodation Service staff and
found out about all of the options. In July, I moved into Mattanya Residences in North Adelaide with
three of my friends. It is a unique, peaceful and quiet location but still close to Uni -only a 15-20
minute walk away. The house is spacious and the weekly rent includes the electricity and water bills.

| I'm from Hobart, Tasmania and I am studying a Bachelor of Design Studies. I moved into CITI
Townhouses in 2004 after having lived at home with my family in Tasmania. The best thing about CITI is
that everything is within walking distance -I really wanted to find somewhere close enough to campus
to walk to Uni -it only takes me about 15 minutes and I never need to catch taxis when I go out. It's
also great for food shopping -I go to the Central Market almost every day and eat out there at least
once a week. [read more]
