Mattanya Resident
Vigya - India
I am from Faridabad in New Delhi and have just started a PHD with the School of Geography and Environmental Studies. I did my Bachelor in Engineering in India and then later went on to pursue a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Infrastructure in Stockholm, Sweden.
Living at Mattanya is great because it is so close to University. I really enjoy the start of my day when I walk to the University across the parklands and the River Torrens and at night the Security Service shuttle bus drops me back home. It's also very close to Melbourne Street with its multitude of restaurants for when you don't feel like cooking. I have never needed to catch a bus since moving here because everything is so close to home.
The overall feeling at Mattanya is very homely, clean and comfortable. My room is spacious and I share with three other housemates –we often stay up late on weekends just to chat.
Because it is University managed you don't have the problems of dealing with landlords in a new country and there is a strong sense of security and trust. I see my friends worrying about landlords and safety issues and complaining about travelling time and I am thankful that I made the decision to live at Mattanya. Living here has made my initial experience with the University and Australia so comfortable. It offers complete independence and yet a strong feeling of belonging - I don't feel as though it is my first time in Australia.
