Conference of Executive Heads 2006 :: Association of Commonwealth Universities

The University of Adelaide Australia

Welcome to the University of Adelaide

The University of Adelaide is Australia's third oldest university. Founded in 1874, it is committed to producing graduates recognised worldwide for their creativity, knowledge and skills, as well as for their culture and tolerance. With 18,690 students enrolled in 2004, including more than 3,000 international students from 80 countries, the University is proudly associated with four Nobel laureates, and nearly 100 Rhodes Scholars.

The University is a member of the Group of Eight, Australia's coalition of leading research universities, and consistently ranks among the top universities in the Asia-Pacific in winning research funds. It has major strengths in the biological and physical sciences, IT and communications, environmental science and social policy, and in the food and wine that are synonymous with South Australia around the world.

The University's main campus is located in the heart of the city on North Terrace, Adelaide's cultural boulevard, near museums, art galleries and concert halls, and just a few hundred metres from the main shopping area and the historic East End, where restaurants and cafes abound.

At the invitation of the ACU and The University of Adelaide, the Conference of Executive Heads is held under the auspices of the Australian Vice-Chancellors' Committee and the New Zealand Vice-Chancellors' Committee, giving the meeting an international and, at the same time, distinctively Australasian character.
