Agricultural Science
For as long as I can remember, I have always had a love of animals- big, small, domestic and wild. I attended Urrbrae Agricultural High School with the ambition of gaining entry into a veterinarian career.

As I didn't gain the entry score required in my Year 12 results, Agricultural Science was my second preference. It gave me the opportunity to study the anatomy, physiology, health, husbandry and breeding of animal species while gaining knowledge in a range of other aspects of animal production species like crop production, plant anatomy, soil constituents and the role of each in a productive agricultural system. The course gives a lot of flexibility to the student as you get to choose what you want to study, gearing yourself towards the future career you want to be in.

Electing to do Honours gives me the opportunity to gain experience in experimental work; researching a topic, choosing an experiment, deriving a hypothesis and work through trying answer the question posed. The experience will help me gain further insight into whether I would like to pursue a future in research or not without restricting the outcome of my course.

Choosing to do an Agricultural Science degree also keeps the door open for further study in the veterinary science field if I wish to pursue it. Overall the course has been enjoyable and the knowledge gained is very valuable for my future in agriculture.
