Nick
Secomb
Nick grew up on a family farm at Windsor in the Mid North of South
Australia and quickly realised that he didn't want a job that would
keep him in an office all day.
"The Bachelor of Applied Science in Natural Resource Management
offered what I saw as a perfect course for my situation. At the
time it was one of the only courses in South Australia that allowed
me to study conservation management while keeping my future options
open"
The broad range of subjects offered opened up a range of career options
including National Parks and Wildlife, agriculture, wildlife research
and pest animal and plant control.
"I am now very happy, working for the Northern Animal
and Plant Control Board which allows me to promote conservation."
Some of the projects Nick has been involved with include spreading
the rabbit calicivirus, the control of cane toad and the eradication
of weeds from local bush areas.
"The most enjoyable part of my job is getting out and meeting
local farmers and discuss their specific problems, whether it
be rabbits, foxes, weeds or any of the numerous other pest species"
