University of Adelaide has introduced this program in response to the demand for skilled food technologists by local, national and international food processors. Students of this program can choose to specialise in either food processing and product development or in food marketing. This program is jointly presented by Adelaide University and Regency Institute of TAFE and includes both practical and theoretical components.

Career options in the food and beverage industries include developing new food products that fulfil consumer’s lifestyle needs for healthy, nutritious, fresh and convenient foods; protecting consumers through quality management, development of safe food products and applying food legislation; and evaluating consumer wants and developing marketing strategies and products to meet these needs.
