Veterinary practice
Vets traditionally diagnose and treat illness and injury in all types of animals. They also work in disease prevention and develop procedures and policy on how to deal with outbreaks of highly infectious diseases such as Foot and Mouth Disease, undertake research in animal health and even work in the food industry supervising safety standards. Many vets specialise in particular types of animals in their work.

Jobs – what and where?
Increasing involvement in international markets mean that there are opportunities in trade and processing for vets seeking a non-traditional career. You can also choose whether you would like to work in a city or country environment and you can specialise, for example in the care of farm animals or small pets. Research jobs could involve developing new strategies for feeding and breeding or working with new technologies in genetics and biotechnology.
