Agriculture now and in the future is about smart management and innovative technology being used to create great produce and great profits while still protecting and nurturing the environment. There is a strong focus on sustainable development and environmentally sensitive management skills. Australian training programs are providing the basis for much of the innovation in agriculture being used across the world in better resource management and emerging technologies.

Jobs – what and where?
With a degree in agriculture, graduates can look at jobs and careers in emerging industries such as aquaculture and biotechnology. A focus on training in the sustainable management of our natural resources could take you anywhere in the world, working to develop and apply new practices in developing countries and research centres for better productivity without damage to the environment. Qualifications in this field will open the door to the job boom in natural resource management in Australia, with positions coming up in the country and the city, ranging from research to teaching, communications, commercial management and advisory services to producers.

Or you can focus on commercial animal or plant management and production and play a part in the ongoing development of our premium products for national and world markets.

A focus on food and wine can take you into Australia’s thriving food and wine production sector, tourism, marketing or hospitality. Australia’s reputation for excellence and innovation in these areas also mean you can look at career options overseas or a mixture of working in Australia and travelling.

Right now, employers in the sector say there aren’t enough people with these qualifications to go around. For example, employment rates from the agricultural programs at Adelaide University are around 98%, with some students obtaining jobs even before they sit their final exams!
