Vaccine Evaluation
AHTA conducts evaluations of industries' submissions to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) and provides commentaries to the PBAC, in terms of the safety, effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the evaluated vaccines, to aid decisions regarding whether the vaccines should be listed on the National Immunisation Program.
AHTA is the only group contracted by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing to conduct vaccine evaluations on behalf of the PBAC. If no vaccines are submitted to the PBAC within an evaluation cycle, then AHTA conduct research projects concerning vaccine evaluations on behalf of the PBAC.
Currently AHTA is conducting a systematic review of the predictors of vaccine uptake in order to inform strategies that aim to improve the uptake of vaccines and consequently to reduce the incidence of vaccine preventable diseases.
