Steroids for pregnant mums OK
Giving steroids to pregnant women at risk of a premature birth will help the
baby without stunting its growth, Australian research shows.
A major international study coordinated by researchers at the Universities
of Adelaide and Melbourne in Australia and The University of Auckland's Liggins
Institute has confirmed the benefits for premature babies of giving their pregnant
mothers repeat doses of corticosteroids if they are at risk of giving birth
very prematurely (before 32 weeks or approximately 7 months).
