Welcome to the Dental Practice Education Research Unit

The Dental Practice Education Research Unit is a joint venture between The University of Adelaide and Colgate Oral Care and it was established in November 1991. Our headquarters are at the Australian Research Centre for Population Oral Health at The University of Adelaide, Australia.

Our objective is to identify and meet the information needs of dentists, dental therapists and dental hygienists and promote the provision of preventive services.

Programs provided include:

1. Colgate Continuing Professional Development Online Program
   The Colgate Online Continuing Professional Development Program will enable you to accrue one CPD point for the successful completion of each online quiz.
2. The Fluoride Update
   The Fluoride Update Program was developed in response to frequent requests from dental practitioners, and consists of a set of information sheets from the cariology area on the issue of fluorides in today's dental practice. Information sheets have companion summary pamphlets for use as a guide for discussion with patients.
3. Colgate Special Topics
   The Colgate Special Topics are currently being developed to provide continuing education in hot topics identified by feedback from dental practitioners on our mailing list. The first topic, Smoking and Oral Health, was released in October, 2005. Special Topic No. 2, Erosion was released in January 2006 followed by Special Topic No 3, Diabetes, in December 2006, Special Topic No. 4, Pregnancy in Nov/Dec 2008, Special Topic No. 5, Oral cancer in April 2011, Special Topic No. 6, Dentine hypersensitivity in September 2011 and Special Topic No. 7, Disabilities in March 2012.                                                           Await! 4. Oral Hygiene
   The Oral Hygiene pamphlets "Effective toothbrushing" and "Cleaning between the teeth" answered some common questions and provided practical techniques about toothbrushing and flossing.
5. The Colgate Caries Control Program
   This is a continuing education program which was offered Australia-wide free of charge to dentists, dental therapists and dental hygienists.
6. The Colgate Periodontal Education Program
   The Colgate Periodontal Education Program aimed to stimulate and support the provision of periodontal care.
