History

ARI is a wholly owned subsidiary company which acts as trustee of the ARI Investment Trust the sole beneficiary of which is The University of Adelaide.

The University of Adelaide is one of Australia’s oldest and most prestigious universities and is a member of the GO8 Universities (the top 8 leading research universities in Australia). It is recognised internationally for excellence in research, particularly in medicine, molecular biosciences, plant and animal science and as an international leader in biotechnology research and development programs; relevance to national and international research needs and to the global market place and effective partnerships with companies and government.

Since its establishment 25 years ago (as Luminis Pty Ltd), ARI has been providing researchers with commercial advice, managing external contract research and consultancy activity for university researchers, negotiating the commercialisation of University intellectual property through licensing, spin-outs, direct product sales, and in some cases the outright sale of IP. In addition to these mainstream activities ARI has managed the requirements of the University’s Intellectual Property Policy not only funding patent applications and legal costs related to commercialisation but providing support to the University community in the broad are of IP and its application in the business context.
