About Nicholas Gruen

Nicholas Gruen is trained in History, Statistics, Law and Economics and has published internationally on a range of issues including economic liberalisation and fiscal policy architecture.
He has worked as a teacher at universities and schools, a cartoonist, a freelance consultant, an advisor to Senator John Button where he helped develop the Button Car Plan, an advisor to John Dawkins when he was Treasurer, and a Commossioner on the Productivity Commission.
In 2000 he founded two businesses - Lateral Economics and Peaches (a discount finance broker) both of which he continues to lead. In addition he is a substantial contributor to Australia's thriving policy blog scene, a board member of the government agency Sustainability Victoria, and chairman of Online Opinion - a popular and successful website of opinion.
He has a regular column in the Australian Financial Review.
In 2008 Dr Gruen was asked by Lindsay Tanner to assist him and his Department on a range of matters relating to regulation including the concept of continuous improvement in regulation.
He was also appointed to membership of the Panel reviewing Australia's Innovation System.
