CATS Plotter
Guidelines
The CATS Plotter is essentially a large InkJet printer. Using the plotter is not a trivial exercise and plotting results will depend upon experience of the user. The advice on this page is a simple start guide you should read before sending a job to the Plotter for the first time.
- CATS recommends Microsoft Publisher for creating posters.
- Covering large areas with ink will tend to saturate the paper. This will result in some bleeding of colours and crinkling of the paper. The paper will flatten out as it dries.
- The Plotter can take a long time (up to 1/2 hour) to download and process the job - this is dependent upon the job’s complexity. The plotting is relatively quick.
- The Plotter will hold the finished job for 10 seconds to allow drying and then let go; you need to be there to collect the job.
*If in doubt of using the Plotter (e.g print settings) you can request for assistance from the CATS staff before printing.
Plotter settings
Once you are ready to print your document on the plotter, open up your document, and click on "Print". You will then have the option to choose the Plotter, making sure you choose the print queue name :
CATSPLOT-Innova21-G24-PrintCentre-HP-DesignJet-T1120 on P2k3prt6450004
Once the HP Plotter has been selected, go to "Preference" to adjust paper size, quality of print, and other miscellaneous settings for your document.
Take note :
- Document size : Make sure it's the correct size you want for the final output
- Orientation : Most documents require Portrait, rather than Landscape, as choosing Landscape cut off part of the document whilst printing. If unsure, choose "Print Preview" once all settings have been selected, to check for cut offs.
- Print Quality : For best print results, move the pointer towards "Quality", for drafts you can allow pointer to stay at default "Speed".
Once again, check Document size in "Paper/Quality" tab that it is the correct size that you want.
In "Features" tab, under Resizing Options, you will want to choose "Print Document on" and choose the same paper size from the last 2 settings. Once all these settings have been set, your print job is ready to go!
