Investigators
The Centre will consolidate and facilitate collaboration between some of the most active groups conducting clinical nutritional research in Australia, which are located in close geographical proximity on the adjacent campuses of the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH), University of Adelaide, and CSIRO Human Nutrition. The administration of each of these institutions has made a commitment to the provision of resources to assist this goal and ensure a successful long-term outcome.
In addition to the Chief Investigators, who contribute complimentary skills and a significant commitment to clinical research, the Centre will bring together basic scientists (A/Prof Blackshaw’s "nerve-gut" laboratory), nutritionists, endocrinologists, gastroenterologists (including A/Prof Holloway and Prof Holtmann), behavioural psychologists (Drs Wilson and Mohr, CSIRO Human Nutrition) and experts in population health (A/Prof Taylor, Population Research and Outcome Studies, Department of Health).
The inclusion of younger investigators with senior members in our group represents an asset. Our capacity for technical innovation, including gastrointestinal intubation and manometry, infusion of nutrients at multiple sites in the gut, measurement of gastrointestinal transit and flow events, 3D ultrasound imaging of gastric volumes, non-invasive ultrasound assessment of endothelial function, evaluation of cardiovascular fitness, assessment of energy expenditure by labelled bicarbonate and calorimetry, and "in-house" assays for a comprehensive range of gut-derived peptides, cannot be matched by any other group in Australia, and has established us internationally at the forefront of nutritional physiology
