Biography

Dr Christine Feinle-Bisset was the recipient of a Career Development Award in 2004 and appointed as a NHMRC Senior Research Fellow at the University of Adelaide, having been awarded the FTT Fricker Research Associateship from the University of Adelaide in 2000, and held the prestigious Florey Research Fellowship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital from 2001 - 2003.  In 2002, she was the recipient of the Hanson Institute New Investigator Award.  Dr Feinle-Bisset graduated in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, in 1991, and received her PhD in Gastrointestinal Physiology from this institution in 1995.  The research for her thesis was conducted in the Centre for Human Nutrition, University of Sheffield, and was followed by a postdoctoral appointment at the University of Zurich (1995 - 1999).  She was the recipient of Young Investigator Awards from the European and International Societies for Neurogastroenterology and Motility in 1995, 1997 and 1998.  Dr Feinle-Bisset has established an international reputation for her clinical research relating to the impact of nutrients on appetite, gastrointestinal motility and perception, in health and functional dyspepsia.  Her research has contributed significantly to current concepts of the role of small intestinal mechanisms in the regulation of appetite, and the effects of fat digestion on energy intake. Several aspects of this research are being developed commercially. Dr Feinle-Bisset frequently receives invitations to address national and international meetings. She has been a chief investigator on a number of NHMRC project grants, and is an author of 69 peer-reviewed papers, and four book chapters. Dr Feinle-Bisset has substantial involvement in clinical research training, having supervised 10 PhD or MD students, 6 Honours/Masters students and two postdoctoral fellows, either in Australia or overseas. A number of these students have continued their careers as nutritional scientists in medical research, or as senior scientists in an industrial environment. Currently she is principal supervisor of 3 PhD students and 2 Honours students, and teaches nutrition to first year Medical students at the University of Adelaide.  With Dr Rayner, she coordinates the structured Honours Programme in the Discipline of Medicine.
