Special seminar by Dr. France Bellisle
'Eating for hunger, eating for pleasure'

The CCRE will host a special seminar presented by Dr. France Bellisle, titled 'Eating for hunger, eating for pleasure'. Dr Bellisle is the Research Director at the National Institute of Agronomy in Paris. Dr Bellisle specialises in eating behaviour, in particular the sensations and situtations that make humans eat and stop eating. In recognition of her work, the French Nutrition Institute has awarded her its 2007 prize for nutritional research.
The seminar will be held in the Conference Room, Level 6 of the Eleanor Harrald Building, Frome Road from 10am to 11am. All welcome. France will be available to chat after the seminar, before flying back to Paris.
Wednesday Wrap Seminar Series for 2009

The first Wednesday Wrap seminar series for 2009 started on February 4. The speakers included Tim Murphy, Project Officer for the CCRE, Kylie Lange, Biostatistician for the CCRE and Paul Cavuoto, CCRE PhD Candidate in the Discipline of Medicine. Everyone is welcome to attend this seminar series and more information can be found under the Seminars tab.
Statistical Training is SPSS
September 11
Kylie Lange (CCRE Biostatistician) will be running a program which will consist of 7 hands-on computing workshops, held fortnightly, using SPSS for statistical analysis. Attendance at theses sessions is free to all associates of the CCRE; non-CCRE members are also welcome, however a fee of $280 (inc. GST) will apply.

Tim Murphy (CCRE Project Officer) and Prof. Gary Wittert (Head of School) attended the second Clinical Research Excellence (CRX08) conference in Brisbane. The program focus was around five distinct streams that appealed to a wide range of clinical research professionals, researchers, practitioners and people interested in this industry and within the framework of these streams were sub-themes covering an extensive range of topics related to the clinical research industry which allowed for a broader scope of discussion. Indigenous health featured prominently in the program and a highlight was a presentation by A/Prof. Richard Murray at the conference dinner on the challenges confronting clinical activities and health researchers in northern Australia. Four international speakers provided a global perspective on clinical research.
Project Officer weds
March 14
On Friday March 14, Tim tied the knot to Lesley Ritter at Tamanu on the Beach, Port Vila, Vanuatu. The wedding was attended by 12 of their friends on a slightly overcast but very warm day. The couple enjoyed 5 days holidaying with friends in Pt Vila including 4 dives on wrecks and reef, a successful fishing charter, a tour of a live volcano and a splash under a huge waterfall before the wedding.
The happy couple spent their honeymoon in Espiritu Santo, diving the world famous wreck of the USS President Coolidge.
Biostatistician

The CCRE has employed a full-time statistician, Kylie Lange. Kylie has over 6 years experience in statistical consulting, including projects within the Flinders University Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and the School of Medicine.
Official Launch
March 4
Over 80 guests enjoyed the official launch of the CCRE at the National Wine Centre. Featured guests included Professor Richard Head, Director Preventative Health National Research Flagship, CSIRO, Professor Justin Beilby, Executive Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Adelaide and Professor James McWha, Vice-Chancellor and President, University of Adelaide. The Honourable John Hill, MP, Minister for Health, officially opened the centre which was followed by a cocktail reception.
Joint CCRE Meeting
February 8
Members of the Diabetes CCRE, located in Melbourne, met with Chief and Associate Investigators of the Nutritional Physiology CCRE. The meeting was held at Coriole Vineyards in McLaren Vale. The meeting between the two CCRE’s realised that there were areas of similar interest which has led to more formal collaborations. The collaborations continued with meals at Russel’s Pizza, Willunga, The Salopian Inn, McLaren Vale and a relaxed drink around the grounds of Bella Cosa, McLaren Vale.
