Project Details
The Palghat-Cauvery shear zone system is a major tectonic boundary separating rocks highly deformed and metamorphosed in the Neoproterozoic from Archaean rocks to the north. It formed as Gondwana amalgamated and may represent the remains of an ancient ocean. This project will investigate the age and origin of these mafic gneisses to determine and their role in the formation of this key region in Gondwana.
The field work component of this project was conducted in August, 2006.
