Project Details
The Latitude Hills have been reported to have experienced temperatures in excess of that reached by any metamorphic terrane known in Australia, but at the moment, no detailed description or evaluation of this suggestion has been undertaken. The timing of this metamorphism is even not known to any accuracy.
This project will undertake detailed mapping of part of the southern Latitude Hills and collect samples to be metamorphically characterised by matching detailed petrographical determination with precise chemical analysis using the electron microprobe based in Adelaide Microscopy. The in-situ dating of accessory phases in their textural context, will be undertaken using the Laser ICP-MS and electron microprobe, based in Adelaide, and the SHRIMP, based in Perth.
