Sustainable Energy: Established Renewables
Interactive discussions about the future of established renewable energy technologies such as wind and solar energy
Renewable energy is sourced from natural resources such as wind, sunlight, geothermal energy, hydropower or biofuels. While all of these options have been explored to varying degrees, wind and solar power are currently considered the most established and viable sources of sustainable energy. But can these clean sources of energy really provide us with a viable commercial alternative to non-renewables?
Associate Professor Bassam Dally and a panel of experts discussed the role that established renewables will play in the move away from fossil fuels. Together they examined whether these sources of energy are efficient enough to be cost-effective and produce enough energy to satisfy future requirements.
