Thebarton
The CET has access to the School of Mechanical Engineering's research laboratory within The University of Adelaide's Research Park located in the suburb of Thebarton, South Australia.
The large research space, approximately 660m2, is used for fundamental and applied research as well as for industrial consultations.
Research equipment is primarily in the fields of combustion, welding, aeronautical fluid mechanics, solar thermal furnace development, vibration and acoustics control. The laboratory has also a small fully equipped workshop, full welding facilities and two executive office suites.
- Dedicated combustion laboratory with:
- Three test bays for assessing open flames
- 20kW MILD combustion furnace
- Secure outside area for large scale open flame testing
- Natural gas supply capable of 1MW output at 100kPa
- Gas analysis equipment
- Temperature and heat flux measurement systems
- High intensity solar simulator producing up to 1300 suns and blackbody surface temperatures exceeding 1800ºK
- A small wind tunnel (0.6m x 0.6m cross section @ 30m/s)
