New clean energy technologies are required to address climate change and to mitigate the expected increase in energy costs due to economic pressures. The CET undertakes energy analysis and optimisation to explore future energy sources, their environmental effects and potential new energy sources and technologies that are being developed as traditional resources diminish.
Research uses systems modelling techniques to examine renewable energy, nuclear energy and fossil fuels including scenario modelling of future low-carbon energy mixes and the critical evaluation of large-scale deployment options, energy backup and variability control.
An open-science experiment in energy analysis supported by the CET and focussed initially on South Australia, can be found here.
