Australia's energy market, like most other energy markets around the world, is dominated by the use of fossil fuels, in particular coal, oil and natural gas. Combustion of these fossil fuels account for approximately 95% of Australia's energy consumption. Given the large reserves of coal and gas, together with the increased demand for energy in the foreseeable future, the combustion of fossil fuels will most likely remain major contributors to the energy market for some time to come.

Members of the CET are actively involved in research and development of the next generation combustion systems. The Centre for Energy Technology seeks to develop technologies that burn fossil fuels in cleaner and more efficient ways, as well as technologies that enable integration of existing combustion systems with new systems to enable smoother transition into an environmentally sustainable society.

CET members have extensive industrial and research experience in the fields of combustion science and technology, particularly in relation to clean coal, ultra-lean pre-mixed combustion, MILD combustion, porous burners, combustion for minerals processing, Gyrotherm® burners employing our Precessing Jet technology, and gasification.
