Fossil fuels are often portrayed as being in competition with alternative energy sources. However, the integration of alternative energy with existing fossil fuel-fired power plants is typically the lowest cost way to generate green electricity, since it capitalises on existing infrastructure. Furthermore, thermodynamic synergy is possible in hybrids, allowing more power to be produced than could be achieved if the resources were used in separate plants.
The CET conducts research to investigate the best holistic methods for energy system integration, including alternative energy and conventional energy sources. CET expertise is also used to assist in optimising existing systems by analysing their energy usage and optimising their operation for maximum efficiency.
