Solar energy is one of the key forms of renewable energy with potential for generating clean, low-carbon power. Electricity from solar radiation is produced by either producing thermal heat, which powers an electricity generator, or, by converting sunlight directly to electricity using solar cells. Solar energy can also be used directly for cooling, refrigeration and heating.
Members of the CET are actively involved in research and development of the next generation of solar energy systems, with particular emphasis on solar thermal systems.
