Welcome to the Children's Research Centre

The Children's Research Centre (CRC) unites research groups within the Discipline of Paediatrics of the University of Adelaide, and their affiliate collaborators around common childhood disorders that cross and extend beyond the traditional boundaries of paediatric specialities.

The potential for interchange between the research groups in the CRC will have a substantial impact on children's health.

The CRC will apply research expertise in stem cell biology, molecular and developmental immunology, infection and immunity, induction of immune tolerance and autoimmunity, mucosal immunity, gut permeability and gut motility, sleep physiology, vascular function, and neurocognition in childhood to answer questions relevant to the common childhood conditions. These conditions include obesity, gastrointestinal disease, diabetes, allergic disease, bone growth and health, rheumatic conditions, cystic fibrosis and sleep breathing disorders, as well as optimisation of immunisation.

The mental health of children with chronic conditions is central to their outcomes. Their prevalence and adult sequelae makes these conditions a high priority for health policy makers. In childhood there are opportunities for effective intervention at a reversible stage prior to permanent adult disease.
