About Us

We are…

The Centre for Heart Rhythm Disorders - a dynamic and dedicated research organisation committed to excellence in research into heart rhythm disorders.

Professor Sanders established the heart rhythm research group within the University of Adelaide in 2006. The group has progressively grown and is recognised nationally and internationally as one of the key arrhythmia groups in Australia. In 2011 this group formed the Centre for Heart Rhythm Disorders.

We do…

Our Vision: To improve the health and well being of patients with Heart Rhythm Disorders.

Our Mission: To advance the understanding and management of Heart Rhythm Disorders.

CHRD provides a forum for translational research into heart rhythm disorders. The group has a large clinical research program as well as an established experimental, computer simulation and large animal research programs in the area of arrhythmogenesis. A particular focus of the group has been into the mechanisms, consequences, treatment and prevention of Atrial Fibrillation.

Investigators conduct cutting edge research encompassing:

  • understanding why cardiac arrhythmias occur and working on better ways to treat them via scientific and clinical pathways
  • exploring the relationship between atrial fibrillation, blood clotting and stroke
  • assessing the burden of cardiac arrhythmia in the community and the health system
  • understanding the patient experience and providing targeted education to improve quality of life
