The University of Adelaide, established in 1874 is
Australia's 3rd oldest University with 16,000 students, including more
than 2,000 students from 70 countries. The University is also one of
Australia's most prestigious, being a member of the Group of Eight
leading Australian Universities and producing two Nobel Prize-winning

The
City of Adelaide, founded in 1836, is the capital of South Australia and
the centre of the State's economic, cultural, political and social life.
It is an attractive well-planned city of wide streets, gardens, squares,
parklands and a mixture of historic and modern buildings. About one million
people live in Adelaide and its suburbs. The size of the city is small
enough to be friendly and welcoming, yet large enough to provide plenty
of attractions and entertainment. Set between the hills and the sea, Adelaide
enjoys a Mediterranean climate. The international Adelaide Festival, held
every two years, celebrates the city's love of music, drama, dance and
the visual arts with artists coming from around the world. Splendid wineries,
food producers, villages and natural attractions are found nearby in the
Mount Lofty Ranges, Barossa Valley and Southern Vales. Beaches, cinemas,
theatres, music and shopping are all popular recreational activities.
