What is it that distinguishes science from other kinds of knowledge? Presumably the answer has a lot to do with the way in which scientific knowledge is based on observation and experiment.
It is suggested that what is needed is a distinction between theories being tested and modified against the evidence (in science) and evidence being selectively accommodated to the theories (in pseudo-science).
Alan will discuss these ideas and illustrate them with historical examples.
