Trade and Regional Integration
The School of Economics has a long tradition of research on international trade and regional integration. CIES affiliates have long contributed to debates about Australian trade policy, including the CIES book Australia's Trade Policies (Oxford University Press, Melbourne, 1995).
Recent focus has been on modelling the impact of trade policy (Ernesto Valenzuela and Kym Anderson), measuring the extent of trade costs (Richard Pomfret and Patricia Sourdin), and conceptualizing trade facilitation (Christopher Findlay and Richard Pomfret). This work has contributed to policy debates through contributions to reports of APEC, ERIA, ESCAP and PECC.
In the 2000s regional and bilateral trade agreements have proliferated, and CIES researchers have been actively working on the phenomenon, especially in the East Asian and Pacific context.
The Program Leader is Richard Pomfret, Professor of Economics, University of Adelaide and Research Associate, CIES. Comments about the program are welcome, as are possibilities for research collaboration. Please contact richard.pomfret@adelaide.edu.au
