Maths Learning Service

Welcome to the the University of Adelaide Maths Learning Service online. We are here to assist all University of Adelaide students with the maths and stats in their studies.

In particular, we run a free Maths Drop-In Centre (see below) for students to consult tutors about maths or stats problems over a cup of tea or coffee. You may stay as long as you like and visit as often as you need. No appointments required.

For Maths IA, Maths IMA and Introduction to Financial Maths students: Access the handout and video from the "Skills for Maths Exams" presentation.

Who may use the Maths Learning Service?

All University of Adelaide students encountering mathematics or statistics in their courses (particularly for the first time at University level) may use the service. For example, Level II students of Physiology or Commerce meeting statistics for the first time, anyone working with numerical or graphical information, as well as Level I Science, Engineering, Economics, Agriculture and Maths students. Assistance provided by the Centre is additional to the help available from the regular avenues of lecturers and tutors in specific subject areas.

There are plenty of reasons why you might benefit from a visit to the MLS. You may:

  • not have all the assumed knowledge for a course (eg. from an interstate or overseas high school with different curricula)
  • be from a non-English speaking background
  • be a mature age student who has become `rusty' since leaving school
  • have developed a case of`maths phobia'
  • have fallen behind because of illness
  • be adjusting to the new skills required for University study.
