The quincunx:
(inactive 25/2/04)
A discussion of the Central Limit Theorem using a device for dropping beads through a bin board. (You will need a java enabled browser.) A more sophisticated applet is at http://www.rand.org/centers/stat/applets/clt.html
Pitfalls of Data Analysis: This article is subtitled "or How to Avoid Lies and Damned Lies". It's a tad technical in places but most topics will be familiar to anyone studying (or with a background in) basic statistics. An interesting read for the practitioner.

This animation demonstrates the effect extreme values (outliers) have on the mean and standard deviation of a sample.[Click "Stop" on your browser if the repetition becomes annoying.]

Mathematics

MathsBridge: An MLC production. This bridging course is designed for students in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management degrees but is also useful for anyone revising high school topics. Check out the Topic Map.
Ask Dr Math: A very large site. Students send in questions and mathematicians all over the world provide the answers.
