Frequently asked Questions
| 1. Does it matter if I can't finish the topics
before lectures begin?
No, but it is better to get as much done as possible. The problem is that it is very difficult and stressful to quickly learn or revise material that you are not familiar with when you need to have the material at your finger tips in lectures. 2. Can I leave the work until the semester break? Yes, but don't underestimate the amount of time you need to cover the material. Learning is more than just reading. You will need to work through the problems before you gain understanding and familiarity. This is particularly true with algebra, if you are not used to it. 3. What if I am having trouble, can I get personal help? Always! Check out the mentor system. 4. Can I print the material off? Yes, use the print command on your browser. There is a link to a full set of answers at the bottom of each section. 5. How do you study when material is on-line? (i) You need to actively concentrate in order to learn. This can present difficulties with on-line material as you can easily surf through it superficially. There are various ways of focusing your attention on the material. For example, you can make a summary as you work your way through it. Alternatively, you can try and restate in your own words what is on the screen. (ii) It's important to work through all the problems in the topic you're studying to check your understanding of it. Each topic has fewer problems than an equivalent school course. If you would like more problems or fuller explanations go to Help/Comment below. 6. Is it necessary to do all the topics? No, just the topics you are uncertain of. Use the questions at the beginning of each topic to check your knowledge. 7. Can I access Mathsbridge from home? Yes. If you have an older model browser like Navigator 2 or explorer 3.0, then it won't be javaScript enabled and you won't be able to see the individual answers. However you can still see the complete set of answers at the bottom of each section (All Answers).
