A plagiarism quiz designed to educate students has been prepared for Politics students of the University of Adelaide. Politics Citation and Plagiarism Quiz (opens in new window). Faculties or Schools as well as external groups can email Online Learning, CLPD with regard to the development of a similar quiz which is discipline specific.

Online learning techniques to prevent plagiarism and cheating

Assessment Techniques - Plagiarism and Cheating

  • Use a variety of assessment techniques, including tests and quizzes, journals, collaborative assignments, papers and projects
  • Be alert to changes in student posting and assignment style
  • Modify discussion questions and assignments each semester that the course is offered
  • Use process steps in completing assignments
  • Minimise the use of individual, competitive situations and maximise the use of collaboration and community building
  • Check sources cited in student work
  • Use proctoring (invigilation) for exams
  • Teach about what constitutes plagiarism
  • Use a plagiarism detection service (eg Turnitin, an online tool which is licensed for use at the University of Adelaide)
