Copyright

When you make material available through MyUni, you are usually making a copy of that material and need to be aware of your obligations in regard to copyright.

This table outlines some of the more common types of materials and offers guidelines on how to make it available in MyUni.

Type of material

How to place it online

Material owned by you or the University including lecture notes, tutorial papers, course outlines, powerpoint files, information on assessment

Electronic documents can be placed directly into MyUni by instructors of the course and should contain the Part VB (Copyright Act) warning notice. The Helpdesk for MyUni can assist with this.

Examination papers

University policy is that all exam papers should be lodged with the Library preferably in electronic format. Contact the Digital Resources Management Centre (DRMC).

Book chapter, journal article, newspaper article

This material in either hardcopy or digitised text will be under copyright. A request form should be submitted to the DRMC for the item.

If copyright permission has been directly obtained for the resource, you should still lodge the material through the DRMC so a record of permission can be kept.

Audio files, video clips, image files

Refer to the University copyright website and ensure compliance with warning notices (under part VA of the Copyright Act).

Material that needs to be converted into a format accessible for students with a disability

The Disability Liaison Officer can assist with these requests and will handle them on a case by case basis.

Digital Resource Management Centre (DRMC)
Located in the Barr Smith Library, the primary role of the DRMC is the digitisation, management and reporting of all copyright text (whether sourced from hardcopy or digital) on behalf of the University. The DRMC will digitise copyright material, record information about the item in the Library catalogue and provide a URL to staff that can be used within MyUni. This will ensure that only one digital copy is kept of a resource that can be referenced from many places.

Disability Liaison Officer (DLO)
The Disability Liaison Officer (DLO), contacted through Student Support Services by phone 8303 5962, is responsible for assisting with the conversion of hardcopy and digitised material into formats suitable for students with a disability. The DLO is responsible for the management and reporting of master copies of digitised material via the Copyright Agency Limited (CAL) database.

Helpdesk for MyUni
The Helpdesk for MyUni can assist with incorporating electronic copyright notices into material and with the conversion of documents and audiovisual material to suitable file formats for use in MyUni. They also offer general email and telephone support for MyUni.
