Facet CStudents critically evaluate information/data and the process to find/generate information/data.When working in Facet C, students critically evaluate information or data they have found or generated--or are in the process of finding/generating, as Facets frequently overlap during the performance of research. They also critically evaluate the procedures used to find that information. They may do so using evaluation techniques that are prescribed by a lecturer, tutor or supervisor, techniques chosen from a prescribed range of options, techniques that they have internalised through familiarity with the protocols of their discipline, or techniques that they have generated for themselves by drawing on a knowledge of appropriate methods.
A student who is researching at Level I within Facet C will work with simple (in context) criteria prescribed by a lecturer or tutor to evaluate both their data and the process they used to find or generate it. A student working at Level V within this facet, in contrast, will be able to use comparatively sophisticated, and self-generated, criteria to evaluate the information they have found or generated, along with their process of inquiry.
