Facet E

Students synthesise and analyse and apply new knowledge

When working in Facet E of the RSD framework, students synthesise, analyse and apply new knowledge that they have located or generated in other facets of their inquiry.  At the lower levels, they may do this using a set format or prescribed procedure.  At higher levels, they will work by identifying gaps in the literature or in the general body of knowledge, and working independently to fill those.

Students working at Levels I and II of Facet E will use prescribed or discipline-specific standard formats to reorganise and reinterpret existing knowledge.  They will be able to ask questions to clarify issues and pursue lines of curiosity, and refine these into researchable questions. At Level V, they will be able to synthesise, analyse and apply information they have gathered or generated, and interpret it effectively, to engage with the field and/or fill gaps in the literature, and extend the field of knowledge.
