Collect and record required information / data from self-selected sources using one of several prescribed methodologies.

Working independently within the boundaries set by a closed inquiry mean that students are given the topic or aim, but chose their own sources of literature, determine their own experimental method, field sampling techniques and so on. They may have criteria to determine the appropriateness of these, depending on their university year of study, discipline, university, etc.
