Links to other interesting sites

Here is a selection of sites that may be of interest to Club members. Comments on and suggestions for additions to this page will be warmly welcomed, either by e-mail alan.keig@adelaide.edu.au or by sending a note to Alan Keig at the Barr Smith Library.

I've listed here some sites that may be of general interest; there are other links at relevant places on the Club site. For example, the Club's wine page has some links that are well worth following up if you want to know more about this particular topic.
Perhaps you want to keep up with the latest news ... there are useful links following the Newspapers and Magazines section of the Club Services page.

The Internet Epicurean
One of the early 'foodie' sites on the Web was The Internet Epicurean -- here's the latest issue. You'll find plenty to interest you, and there are lots of recipes -- have a look at the very lively, interactive Recipe Exchange feature.

Research Centre for the History of Food and Drink
You really must visit this site which was established by our own Department of History to promote research in the history of food and drink, especially collaborative, interdisciplinary, and cross-institutional research.

food-fun-wine
food-fun-wine is a somewhat eclectic site that offers an 'exploration of the gastronomy of South Australia'. Take a trip to the Central Market, a cook's tour of Asia or Asia on a plate.

Adelaide's Central Market
One of my top favourite places to shop

Adelaide Showground Farmers' Market

RecipeSource: Searchable Online Archive of Recipes
A very large collection divided into types of dish and also country of origin. Your Webmaster dutifully investigated the Australian Recipes section: hmmm! -- two recipes for 'Jolly Jumbuck in a Tuckerbag' definitely seemed like nostalgic overkill. Another duo of recipes, this time headed 'Australian Shrimp on the Barbie', perhaps brings us up to date, somewhat. Worth a look.

The history of eating utensils
The Anthropology Department at the California Academy of Sciences houses the Rietz Food Technology Collection, a large portion of which consists of eating utensils. The variety of forms displayed by many items in the Rietz Collection documents the history and evolution of such common utensils as forks, knives, spoons and chopsticks. A fascinating website...
Law for you
Explains the law in everyday language and provides fact sheets, and do-it-yourself forms and letters. It's worth noting the disclaimer: you should not rely on any of the information on this site when making decisions that could affect your legal rights.

Weather forecast
Check on what Adelaide's weather will be like for the next four days; or, if you are about to travel, find out what the weather will be like just about anywhere in the world.

The Universal Currency Converter®
An excellent online exchange rate utility: find out the awful truth of just how few United States greenbacks you'll get for an Aussie dollar.

NTEU
The National Tertiary Education Industry Union Web site. Keep up to date with news from the Adelaide Branch.
