General information about the Club
The Club was established in 1950 and has operated in the present premises, on Hughes Plaza, since June 1971.
All academic and general staff, postgraduate students, and partners of members are most welcome to join. Membership is also extended to employees of the other two universities as well as to associated organisations such as the State Library, Museum, Art Gallery, Adelaide Zoo, Royal Adelaide Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Services
Services include an extensive casual lunch menu featuring roasts, grills, daily specials, rolls, sandwiches, cakes and snacks. Take away platters of sandwiches and cakes are available for departmental convenience.
An evening light meal and snack service is also available daily, Monday to Friday.
Hours of service
The Club is open from 10.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Thursday; 10.00am to 6.30pm on Friday.
- Full bar service: 11.30am - 6.00pm Monday to Thursday; 11.30am to 6.30pm on Friday

- Full lunch service: 11.30am - 2.30pm
- Afternoon and evening meal service -- light meals, pies, slices and cakes are available from Monday to Friday during the afternoon, and right through to closing time -- ideal for a quick meal between meetings, lectures or other engagements
- Cakes, snacks, chocolates, shortbread and espresso coffee (cappuccino, caffe latte, etc.) are available from the bar during opening hours, at moderate cost.
Dining rooms
Three upstairs dining rooms for group bookings supplement the casual dining service. These rooms are available at very reasonable rates for personal functions or departmental lunches, dinners and cocktail parties. They can also be booked for business type functions such as seminars, trade displays, book launches and small conferences.
A major attraction of the Club is its outside garden adjacent to the Terrace Lounge.
This area lends itself during fine weather to that "get away from the office" lunch or coffee in the "campus oasis". It is also available to groups for "cook your own" barbecues -- the Club supplies everything including salads, bread, sauce, plates and cutlery!
Wine at the Club
A major feature of the Club is the extensive range of wine in stock. All wine on offer to members is carefully selected according to quality and value for money -- the Club has an "off-licence endorsement" allowing members to purchase wines, beers and spirits to take away.

Many members have discovered the high quality and extremely keen prices and are regularly purchasing their wines from the Club.
Full details of what bargains are available and how to order are given on the Club's wine page.
Newspapers and magazines
A range of newspapers is available, including The Telegraph, Financial Review, The Age, Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian and The Advertiser.
Other periodicals include New Scientist and various topical publications. Popular magazines include Time, Choice, Australian Gourmet Traveller, House and Garden, plus the City Messenger and The Adelaide Review.
If you are looking for an online version of a particular newspaper, OnlineNewspapers.com makes it easy by listing them alphabetically and also by region and country.
Print-based newspapers cannot compete in immediacy with the electronic news services. For an example of the new genre, drop in to the excellent

Club conditions
Full details of the conditions of membership of the Club are given in the Constitution; the main points to note are:
- Access to the Club Premises
- This is effected by using your Membership Card. Simply by running the card carefully through the bar-code reader the door lock is released allowing access to the Terrace Lounge and the garden area. This procedure has been adopted to maintain the use of the Club facilities by financial members only and to ensure that we operate strictly within the requirements of the Licensing Act.
- Unfinancial Members
- Should a member become unfinancial for any reason the member's bar-code number will be removed from the electronic system, thus preventing access. In such cases a catch-up fee of $10.00 per month (or part thereof) will be charged for back subscriptions.
A replacement cost of $10.00 will be charged to replace a lost membership card, to cover the cost of issuing a new card and amending the electronic bar-code access system.
- Resignation of Membership
- This must be done in accordance with the Constitution of the Club which requires such notice in writing. Should a member resign from the Club but wish to re-join at a later stage, the re-joining fee of $25.00 (plus outstanding subscriptions) will be payable. However, the Committee may waive such re-joining fees in certain circumstances, for example, where a member ceases employment with the University but resumes employment again within a reasonable period of time.
- Reciprocal Rights
- Most University Clubs will extend reciprocal rights to members of this Club, but it should be remembered that such rights can only be extended to current financial members of the Club. Upon application, members will be provided with a letter of introduction to the clubs to be visited provided that the member continues to maintain subscriptions or pays subscriptions in advance to cover the period of absence.
- Suspension of Membership
This may occur only where a member
- Makes written application to the Club Management Committee
- Will be away from the University for a period of twelve months or some other acceptable extended length of time
- Will not be using reciprocal rights at any other Club during the period of absence
- The Member's Card is surrendered to the Club for safe keeping (the Card will be returned to the member upon reinstatement of subscription).
