Geodynamics of the marginal terranes of the South Australian Craton

Current Project Progress
In 2007 Doctor Baines began a program to map the northern Gawler craton in three dimensions – using a combination of potential field and seismic interpretation backed by petrophysical data and observations obtained from drill core. The initial goal has been to determine the potential field signature of the Neoproterozoic and younger cover rocks. By effectively removing this signature Doctor Baines has been able to isolate the components of the potential field data that are related to basement composition and structure. This work will continue apace in 2008 and will be supported by deep drilling, petrology and geochronology (conducted as part of LP0882000, and targeted based on Doctor Baines early modelling) and deep seismic acquisition (conducted through AuScope).
