Welcome to the CNRC

Welcome to the Computational Neuroscience Research Cluster (CNRC) at The University of Adelaide.

Computational neuroscience is a rapidly emerging multidisciplinary enterprise that seeks to understand, model and ultimately copy biological computational systems. It draws on research conducted in a range of disciplines, including cognitive science, cognitive psychology, neurophysiology, computer science, electronic engineering, molecular genetics, developmental neurobiology and clinical neuroscience.

The principal aim of the CNRC is to bring together researchers in these different areas in an effort to develop and pursue interdisciplinary research projects which further our understanding of biological computation and lead to innovative computational technologies.

The more we understand about the brain and how it works, the better our chances of developing smarter computer systems and AI technologies, of significant progress in repairing damaged neural tissue, and of defining and realising the potential of human consciousness and intelligence. The potential applications and benefits of this research are wide-ranging and significant, and may well bring us within reach of achievements that until now have only ever been considered science fiction.
