Project Industry Placements - Information and Guidelines

Responsibilities of Industries

Full description is available in the Industry Brochure.

To identify a suitable project and nominate a supervisor who will be the contact for the student and University staff.

The process requires this nominee to:

  • Assist with and approve a project task description suitable for use in identifying potential graduate
  • Take part in the selection of the graduate
  • Provide supervision and guidance for the student as required
  • Provide materials, tooling, equipment, etc as required to fulfil the requirements of the project
  • Take part in periodic review and progress meetings as considered appropriate
  • Arrange for payments on invoice in accordance with the agreement

Benefits to the Industry include:

  • A link with University academic departments and staff
  • Access to a graduate supported by the resources of the University
  • A cost effective alternative to employing a graduate or hiring a consultant
  • Access to the R&D tax concession where the company is eligible
  • Ownership of the results of work carried out under the conditions of the collaborative agreement
  • A chance to enhance the training and skills of a graduate to complement the academic achievements
  • An opportunity to assess the skills of a graduate who may be a potential employee

Responsibilities of the University

The University will nominate an academic supervisor who will:

  • Assess the suitability of the task description
  • Assist with identifying suitable potential students
  • Take part in the selection of the student
  • Provide mentor support for the duration of the collaborative agreement
  • Take part in periodic review and progress meetings as considered appropriate

Benefits to the Academic Supervisor include:

  • Additional links to industry providing potential for further interaction
  • A chance to demonstrate to industry the expertise and facilities of the department
  • A source of information for consideration in future course material

Responsibilities of the Student

The Student will:

  • Prepare project documentation based on the Client Requirement for approval by the client and academic supervisor
  • Complete the project activities as directed by the client supervisor and academic supervisor

Benefits to the Student include:

  • Receipt of scholarship payments for project activities
  • Links with a company to gain valuable industry experience
