Teachers

Evaluation of the Compass Program in Sydney has evidenced that the clear linking of curriculum to the activities undertaken is the most effective way to ensure students gain maximum benefit. To this end, all Adelaide Compass team members work with teachers to embed programs firmly in the school curriculum. This means that teachers and students will find the activities helpful and relevant. Compass programs are currently supporting Maths, Literacy and Science, with activities in Health Science, Robotics and Enterprise in the planning stages. We are always happy to discuss any relevant curriculum areas with teachers, and tailor existing packages to different age ranges and abilities. Details of programs are listed under Compass Strands.

As all Adelaide Compass programs are tailored to the individual needs of the school, students and the curriculum, detailed planning with teachers involved in the program is an integral part of the process. We are keen to be involved in full staff planning at staff meetings, or to work with individual teachers as suits the schools needs.

Adelaide Compass also offers literacy support. Our volunteers are trained in the Mulitilit Reading Tutor Program and can support this where it is already in place in school. Volunteers can also support student reading in any school.

Our volunteers are also able to support study clubs in school, providing an additional resource to assist students of all ages and abilities with homework. Arrangements for study hub support will be discussed and negotiated with individual schools to reflect the school's needs and requirements.
