The benefits of counselling

Everybody experiences problems in their lives.  Sometimes these problems can get in the way of achieving your goals and enjoying your life. At these times it can be helpful to talk with a counsellor.

Many students are surprised at how beneficial counselling can be. Students come to counselling with a wide range of issues (from study difficulties to coping with trauma). It does not matter how big or small these concerns may be.

Some of the personal issues counselling has assisted students with include:

  • stress
  • family issues
  • depression
  • panic and anxiety
  • abuse
  • relationship issues
  • motivation
  • sexuality.

The Counselling Service can also be a starting point for other concerns such as how to seek resolution about a complaint or assistance with equity issues; for example, harassment or discrimination.

Seeking assistance can be the first step in regaining control or direction and moving forward in your life.

Student Testimonial

“I see the counsellor regularly and I have found him to be absolutely fantastic. They have lots of alternative ways of dealing with stress and anxiety which are very effective.”
