| Course Description | This course examines regional planning in advanced economies and the relationship between regional planning and more conventional land use planning. The course considers the origin and development of regional planning as a discipline, as well as its contemporary applications. Regional planning has a long history within advanced economies and over recent decades has been advanced as a key strategy for ensuring the economic competitiveness of major urban centres. The need for regional planning has also been boosted by the increasing connectedness of regions, both locally and across territorial borders. The course draws upon examples from Australia and other nations and considers in some details the interaction between economic development processes and regional planning.
