Course Description This course is an introduction to statistics. It is aimed at students in business, economics and similar disciplines, although it may have wider appeal. The emphasis is on understanding the concepts that statistics relies on as well as interpreting the result. By the end of the course, students will understand what statistical techniques are appropriate in various situations as well as when they aren't appropriate. No computing background is required although students will be shown how computers can be used in statistical analysis. Topics covered may include descriptive statistics, correlation and simple regression, probability, point and interval estimation, hypothesis testing, index numbers and time series analysis.
